Piggy!

Our first assignment for Motion Graphics for Interactive Media was to create a stop-motion animation! In this one, a little pig stumbles across a pile of veggies, and has to fend off a bigger pig.

Despite my best intentions, I have not done any stop-motion since Mr. Magpie so I was excited to do another one. Hopefully I’ll be doing some more very soon!

Here are some stills:

Director Series Posters

For Advanced Graphic Design this semester, we were to create three posters for a Director series. Recap from my last post: each poster was to represent one of the directors movies, and the three posters had to work as a cohesive whole.

The director I chose was Christopher Nolan, and the three films were Memento, the Prestige, and Inception.

I went with a very minimalist layers concept, with very muted colors. For Memento, the boxes fade into the background, representing the fading memories of the main character, while pulling double-duty representing the Polaroid photos he uses to remember. In the Prestige poster, I represent the three stages of a magic trick: The Pledge (show an ordinary object), the Turn (make it disappear), and the Prestige (bring it back). So the top box is full, the middle one is empty, and the bottom box is full again. The poster for Inception shows the multiple levels of dreams, 5 to be exact.

The big changes from earlier, I moved the shapes so they bleed of the page, and made the title of the movies larger and red.

Work-in-progress: Movie Posters

This semester we are creating posters for a Director Series. We are to choose a director and three movies by that director, and then create a poster for each that work together as a cohesive whole. My director is Christopher Nolan, and the movies are Memento, the Prestige, and Inception.

These are the second drafts. In the first draft they were extremely minimalist and flat. They are still fairly minimalist but are more three-dimensional. For the next draft, I am going to lighten the background and add a little bit of color. For the most part, however, I am liking the monochrome.

Mr. Magpie

Here is my final project for Motion Graphics, Spring 2011.

HD links here: YouTube | Vimeo

Our assignment was to create a music video. I chose the song “Morning Mr. Magpie” by Radiohead, and decided to try my hand at stop-motion animation. This is pretty much my first attempt at claymation. It is also my favorite thing I have done for school, ever!

Here are a few production stills:

Nearly finished; just before adding the arms.

Print to Motion

Here is my first assignment for Motion Graphics for Video and Film. We were to take a print piece we had done previously and create a motion graphic from it. I chose my personal identity project from last year.

Print to Motion from Aaron Weidele on Vimeo.

In the personal identity assignment, I created animals and other characters from my initials A.W., so here are a few of them in motion. The animation had to end with the final print piece, in this case the main logo.

The Apple Sequence

Here’s an old assignment from Media Design a couple years ago. I always liked this one, because I personally thought it was pretty funny! I didn’t post this initially but now I am remedying that. For this assignment we were to arrange photos in a way that told a clear narrative. We could take photos ourselves, or we could use found images. I went with the former to tell a story of an apple who meets an unfortunate end. The one thing I could have done to make this piece a little stronger would be to use one red apple and one green, so that it was more clear that the two apples were different characters.

The Pursuit of Fuzziness

Here is the first project from Video Aesthetics and Techniques. It’s called “The Pursuit of Fuzziness”.

The Pursuit of Fuzziness from Aaron Weidele on Vimeo.

For this assignment, we were to go around taking pictures of stuff we thought was cool. Once we had our pictures, we were supposed to find a theme or a story from the photos. I found that I took a lot of pictures of fake animals, and I went from there.

I would say I am relatively happy with this, although I don’t feel like it’s my best work. What do you think?

Video Assignment 2

This is the second video assignment for VP&T. In the first assignment, we were to create a one-minute video with no edits. This time around, we had to create a 30-second video with many edits.

Project 2: 30-second video from Aaron Weidele on Vimeo.

I made quick cuts of stressful things, cutting in an image of a bike rider. (Mark) As the piece progresses, the stressful shots fade away . . .

Simon

I am continuing to add assignments from last semester. This time, it is the Simon game I made for Interactive Multimedia. Check it out and play! I had to hum all the sounds. :-) Also, a roundup of all the assignments from that class can be found here.
